Building Procedures and Safety

BES Building Procedures and Safety Plan

  • Temperature checks
    • All teachers/staff will have temps taken prior to student arrival
    • Staff will take student temperatures before they enter the building in the morning
      • Car Line
      • Crosswalk
      • Bus Stops
    • Midday temperature checks will be performed by classroom teachers, as well
    • Visitors deemed essential by administrators will require their temperature taken upon arrival.
  • Entering and exiting the building
    • Front door will be accessible throughout the day from 7:30 AM - 2:30 PM.
    • Upon student arrival, hot or cold breakfast will be served in a grab and go container and then they will proceed to the classroom. If a student is not eating breakfast, they will go directly to their classroom.
    • Staggered dismissal
  • Cafeteria procedures  
    • One grade level will be served lunch in the cafeteria at a time to allow for distancing
  • Recess
    • Each grade level will have recess at a designated time.
    • Equipment will be sprayed down with a kid-safe disinfecting solution after each recess
  • Hygiene practices
    • Teachers will require proper handwashing at bathroom breaks, before lunch, after PE, music, library, recess, and especially after sneezing, coughing, blowing their nose, and any other activity that could spread illness.
    • Additional hand sanitizing stations will be added throughout the building for student use when needed.
  • Bathrooms
    • Bathrooms will be sprayed down with a kid-safe disinfecting solution multiple times throughout the day.
  •  Building Traffic Flow
    • We have added a passing time for PE, music, library, lunch, and recess limiting the number of students in the hallway and cafeteria at one time.
  • Assemblies
    • We will not have whole school assemblies until the immediate threat of COVID-19 has passed.
  • Visitors, IEP, 504, or Other Parent Meetings
    • No visitors will be allowed in the building beyond the office.
    • Temperatures will be taken upon entering the office.
    • With administrator approval, meetings that require a parent or guardian present will take place when necessary in the conference room. Temperatures, again, will be taken upon arrival and the conference room will be disinfected after the conclusion of the meeting.
  •  Water fountains   
    • Please bring a pre-filled water bottle from home.
    • In order to reduce points of contact, water fountains will not be available for student use. Water fountains will be available to refill bottles with the assistance of a staff member.
  • Social Distancing
    • Social distancing will be practiced to the extent possible in common areas such as hallways, cafeteria, and gym.
    • Each classroom will adapt to create the most efficient approach for student safety.
  • Student pull-out services
    • All SPED, Title and ELL services will still be provided.
    • Special Service providers will pick up individual and small groups from their homeroom classroom when it is time for their scheduled session.
    • Special Service classrooms will be sanitized with a kid-safe disinfecting solution after each session
  • Shared Items
    • There will be no sharing of individual school supplies.
    • If sharing a particular item is necessary, it will be sanitized between each student use.
  • Subs
    • If a teacher is ill and a sub is required, we will first contact a board approved sub.
    • If a sub is not available, we will utilize a paraprofessional on site.
    • If a sub and a site paraprofessional is not available, we will divide students equally amongst the remaining grade level classes.
  • A child is suspected to be sick
    • An isolation room will be utilized for students presenting COVID-19 symptoms or running a fever.
    • Parents will be contacted to pick up their child and should seek medical attention if they think it is necessary. 
    • Students can not return to school until they have been fever free for 48 hours.
  • Return to School After COVID-19
    • If a child or staff member has been diagnosed with or placed in quarantine due to COVID-19, the Kay County Health Department will issue a release letter. This release letter must be presented to the building administrator when it is safe to return back to school.

Blackwell Middle School Procedures

2020-2021

Temperature Checks

  • All teachers/staff will have temperatures taken prior to student arrival. 
  • Staff will take students’ temperatures in the morning before entering the building.
  • Visitors deemed essential by administration will have temperatures taken before entering the building. 
  • Coaches will check temperatures of student athletes before morning practices.

Entering/Exiting Building

  • All students will enter the building through the back gym doors/bus drop off area.  Students' temperatures will be taken before entering the building. 
  • Students arriving after 8:00 a.m. will enter the building through the front doors.  Students’ temperatures will be taken before entering the building.
  • Students will receive a hot or cold breakfast served in a grab and go container and will proceed to their first hour classrooms. If a student chooses not to get breakfast, they will proceed to their first hour classrooms.
  • Dismissal will be staggered from the building.
    • Walkers will exit the building through the front doors upon dismissal @ 3:20
    • Parent pick up will exit the building through the front doors upon dismissal @ 3:23
    • Bus riders will exit the building through the back gym doors/bus pick up area upon dismissal @ 3:25

Cafeteria

  • Each grade level will be served lunch at a time to allow for social distancing.

Recess

  • Each grade level will have recess during their designated time to allow for social distancing. 
  • Equipment will be sprayed down with disinfectant solution at the end of each recess.

Hygiene Practices

  • Teachers will require proper hand washing throughout the day.  Hand Sanitizing stations will be provided throughout the building, classrooms, office and cafeteria.  Students will be encouraged to use these multiple times throughout the day. 

Restrooms

  • All restrooms will be sprayed with kid safe disinfectant solution throughout the day

Bell Schedule/Traffic Flow

  • Students will practice social distancing and enter classrooms upon arrival. Each hour.    All teachers will be out in the hallways helping students with social distancing. Students will utilize grade level stairways to help with social distancing. 
  • Student lockers have been assigned to bottom lockers only to help to allow for social distancing.

Assemblies

  • Assemblies will not occur until the threat of Covid 19 is under control.
  • When assemblies are had, each grade level will be assigned to one of the three

Visitors, IEP, 504 or other parent meetings

  • No visitors will be allowed in the buildings beyond the office. 
  • Temperatures will be taken upon entering the building.
  • With administrator approval, necessary meetings that require a parent/guardian present will take place in the conference room.
  • Upon conclusion of the meeting, the room will be disinfected. 

Water Fountains

  • Until the threat of Covid 19 is under control, the water fountains at BMS will remain closed. 
  • Students are allowed to bring a water bottle from home, until further notice.

Social Distancing

  • Social distancing will be practiced to the extent possible in common areas such as hallways, cafeteria and gym. 
  • Each classroom will adapt to create the most efficient approach for student safety.

PULL OUT Services

  • All ELL, SPED, Title and COUNSELING services will still be provided. 
  • Counseling students will continue to be dismissed through the office. 
  • All outside counselors will be required temperature checks before entering the building. 
  • All rooms used for these services will be disinfected upon the conclusion of the session.

Shared Items

  • There will be no sharing of individual school supplies.
  • If sharing a particular item is necessary, it will be sanitized before the next use.

Subs

  • IF a teacher is ill and a sub is required, we will first contact a board approved sub.
  • IF a sub is not available, we will farm out.

IF a child is suspected to be ill

  • An isolation room will be utilized for students presenting COVID 19 symptoms or running a fever (100.4 and above)
  • Parents will be contacted to pick up their child.  They should seek medical attention if they feel it is necessary.
  •  Students must present no fever for 48 hours and/or respiratory issues before returning to BMS.

Return to school after COVID 19

  • If a child or staff member has been diagnosed with or placed in quarantine due to COVID 19, the Kay County Health Department will issue a release letter, which must be presented to building administration, when it is safe to return back to school.  

Contact Information

  • Make sure all contact information is current and lists emergency backup numbers if parent/guardian cannot be reached
  • Keep contact information current.  If changes occur throughout the year, please let the office know immediately so updated to the system can be made.

‚ÄčBlackwell High School Safety Plan

Temperature Check

1.   Temperatures will be taken daily for both staff and students.

2.   Staff members will be present and checking each student.

3.   Those entering after the initial temperature time MUST enter through the main office.

Entering Building

1.   We will only be allowing students to enter the building through the Study Center doors every morning.

2.   Students may start entering the building at 7:00 am.

Lunch Plan

1.   We will utilize a gab and go scenario. Students will grab lunch, then quickly move on.

2.   We will also utilize social distancing protocols.

3.   Masks are not required but can be worn by any student desiring to do so.

Hygiene Practices

1.   All staff will be required to practice proper handwashing throughout the day.

2.   We will have sanitizing stations provided throughout the building.

3.   Restrooms will be disinfected several times throughout the day.

4.   Classrooms will be disinfected properly.

 

Visitors or Meetings

1.   No visitors will be allowed other than in the office for pick up etc.

2.   Temperature will be taken before you may enter the office.

3.   If needed, administrators may make exceptions for necessary meetings.

4.   All areas of meetings will be disinfected at the conclusion of the meeting.

Social Distancing

1.   Social distancing will be practiced to the best of our ability at all times throughout the day.

2.   Your child’s safety is extremely important to us.

Contact Information

1.   Please make sure all contact information is always up to date in case of an emergency.

2.   If at any time during the school year you have any changes to your contact information, please notify the school immediately.

Dismissal Plan:

1.   We will utilize social distancing protocols

2.   Staff will move students along as expeditiously as possible

3.   We are encouraging students to not the ride the bus, if possible, instead having personal transportation to cut down on close contact

4.   We are encouraging masks for extra safety on the buses if necessary
