Blackwell Public Schools has selected two outstanding teachers as its nominees for the 2019-2020 Oklahoma Medal for Excellence in Teaching, a statewide teaching award sponsored by the Oklahoma Foundation for Excellence. Each district nominee, secondary teacher Ashley Heitschmidt, Art instructor at Blackwell High School, and elementary teacher Tobi Wood, third grade teacher at Blackwell Elementary, will receive a $500 grant from the Blackwell Public School Foundation.
One of these outstanding nominees will represent Blackwell at the state level as Blackwell District Teacher of the Year. If selected at the state level, the recipient will receive an award of five-thousand dollars together with a glass sculpture designed specifically for this honor. They will also be recognized at the Education Foundation Banquet.
These teachers have been characterized as being exceptionally skillful and dedicated classroom teachers, having knowledge of their students and demonstrating vigorous, creative, and imaginative teaching. It has been stated that recipients for the Blackwell Schools play an active and useful role in their communities as well as their schools.
